Who We Are

Department of Higher Education (HiED)

Brunei Darussalam’s journey to excellence in the development of higher education began with the emergence of institutions of higher learning 30 years ago in the 1980s. The Higher Education Division (HED) was established on April 1, 2008 by the Ministry of Education under the Office of the Permanent Secretary (Higher Education). This division then became Department of Higher Education (HiED) starting on June 1, 2021.

Our function and roles:

  • Regulating and facilitating the governance of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs)
  • Enhancing HEIs’ expertise and capabilities in research and academic development
  • Aligning the strategic initiatives of HEIs with the Ministry of Education’s Vision
  • Facilitating the internationalisation of higher education
